Bridge to Africa: Canadian Society For Training & Development (CSTD)
Stephen Lewis was a recipient of the CSTD President’s Award for outstanding lifetime achievement in the field of learning. While accepting his award at the CSTD conference, Mr. Lewis challenged CSTD to do something about the plight of those in Africa suffering in the wake of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. CSTD chose to accept this challenge by sending a team of trainers to Africa to help rebuild the human infrastructure. This endeavor is now referred to as "Our Bridge to Africa". Mary Lou was selected to be on the first Bridge to Africa team and travelled to Kenya with three other colleagues - Peter Taylor, Allison Patterson and Leigh Geraghty. They facilitated Train-the-Trainer sessions for community leaders in Mombasa and Malindi. Their efforts were recognized by the Canadian Society for Training and Development by the Volunteer Recognition Award.
